Dr. Kikuko Kashiwagi has been Professor of German Studies at Kansai University in Osaka since 2005. After studying German and museum studies at Rikkyo University in Tokyo, she completed her doctorate at the University of Munich with a dissertation on food rituals in the works of Thomas Mann, which was funded by the DAAD. Her research interests include 20th century German literature, cultural history, food symbolism and cultural mediation. She led research projects on eating rituals in the big city and conducted research at the University of Bonn in 2011/12. As a dramaturge for the theater group Seiryu, she has worked on productions of classical works. In addition to numerous publications, she has translated works by Irmgard Keun into Japanese. Her interdisciplinary approach combines literary studies with cultural history and intercultural communication. Further information and publications can be found under Researchmap.
